Happy 2024! January marks the beginning of the General Assembly’s Spring Session. I am looking forward to unveiling my initiatives this session and building on the initiatives we passed in 2023.
If you would like to provide me with input on your priorities for 2024, I encourage you to join one of my Policy Advisory Committees, where I discuss state initiatives with community members and stakeholders. Toy Drive for Children in Foster Care
Our annual toy drive was so successful that we ran out of office space! Our community’s generosity helped Aunt Martha’s fill up an entire van. All the new toys and books made the holidays special for local children in our foster care system.
A special thank you to our partners, BeaUnique Latin Kitchen and Taylor Family YMCA, for helping us collect toys this year.
Winter clothing & toiletries drive
This year’s winter clothing drive received so many donations that Centro de Informacion had to build a new shelf to fit everything. We filled up 7 large boxes with winter clothes and toiletries. Thanks to the community’s generosity, families are staying warm.
A special thank-you to the Community Crisis Center and Centro de Informacion for distributing the donations. I also want to thank the Taylor Family YMCA, the Centre of Elgin, and the Dundee Township Adult Activity Center for participating and being collection sites.
