We had an action-packed summer filled with community connection and meaningful work! From bill signings to parades, coffee chats, and local events, we kept the energy high all season long. We kicked things off with a successful diaper drive in partnership with the Elgin Partnership for Early Learning, followed by Elgin’s Juneteenth Festival, and a bustling shred-fest at Elgin Community College with the Kane County Teacher’s Credit Union.
We were also fortunate to have three motivated high school interns join our office this summer. With their enthusiasm and hard work, we were able to get even more involved in the community – helping out at farmer’s markets, mobile food pantries, and local festivals, while delivering resources directly to community members’ doors. It was a summer to remember, and we’re grateful to everyone who made it so special!
We’re looking forward to keeping this momentum going this fall. Catch us at Carpentersville’s Fall Fest on September 21st at Carpenter Park between 10 am and 5 pm or at any of the upcoming Hispanic Heritage events in the community. You will find a list of upcoming events hosted by our office at the end of this newsletter.
If you ever have any questions, concerns or requests for assistance please do not hesitate to contact my office at staterepmoeller@gmail.com or 847-841-7130. It is an honor to represent you in Springfield and my staff and I look forward to serving you.
On July 10th, Governor Pritzker signed HB5395, the Healthcare Protection Act, into law—ushering in a new era for health care in Illinois. This transformative legislation
removes obstacles that have prevented patients from accessing the care they deserve, including banning step therapy, prior authorization for crisis mental healthcare and banning junk insurance plans that don’t cover preexisting conditions. Additionally, it mandates that insurance companies submit proposed premium hikes to the Department of Insurance for review and approval, ensuring greater accountability and fairness for Illinois residents.
Protecting Reproductive Healthcare Rights
On August 7th, Governor JB Pritzker signed HB4867 into law, strengthening Illinois’ commitment to reproductive rights. This amendment to the Illinois Human Rights Act closes a crucial gap in the state’s anti-discrimination protections, ensuring that individuals cannot face
discrimination in employment, housing, or public spaces based on their reproductive health choices. Illinois continues to lead the way in safeguarding personal freedoms and healthcare decisions.
Fighting Hunger Together
On August 23rd, Food for Greater Elgin and Centro de Informacion held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate their exciting expansions and strengthened partnerships. These organizations play a crucial role in our community, ensuring families have access to the food they need.
With this new expansion, they’ll be able to reach even more families in need, thanks to the support of state, federal, and local resources. This marks a significant step forward in the ongoing fight against hunger in our community.
Investing in Essential Infrastructure
On August 29th, Rep. Moeller, alongside Governor Pritzker and other state and local leaders, celebrated the official opening of the Longmeadow Parkway Bridge. This vital project will help alleviate congestion on routes 72 and 68, offering drivers smoother access to
key areas across Northern Kane County. Thanks to collaborative efforts with fellow legislators, we secured $30 million in state funding to ensure the bridge remains toll-free, making travel more efficient and accessible for everyone.
Safeguarding Our Environment
For the 9th year in a row, Rep. Moeller received a 100% rating from the Illinois Environmental Council. This designation reflects her commitment to tackling climate change and protecting the health and well-being of our communities by preserving our ecosystems and taking on polluters in our state.
Advocating for the Underserved
On August 28th, Rep. Moeller was honored to receive the 2024 Legislative Champion Award from the Illinois Association of Rehabilitation Facilities (IARF). This recognition highlights her dedication to advocating for individuals with intellectual and developmental
disabilities. The IARF’s work is vital to advancing the well-being of those with intellectual and developmental disabilities and Rep. Moeller is proud to stand alongside them in championing the rights and needs of these individuals.
