Winter 2023 Newsletter:

Happy February! It looks like we’re in for six more week of winter, so I hope you and your family are keeping warm as we experience some cold winter temperatures.

The 102nd General Assembly met for its “Lame Duck” session the first week of January 2023. We considered landmark legislation to keep our communities safe from gun violence and protect Illinoisans’ access to health care. We also considered legislation addressing funding for hospitals and capital projects, bringing money into our communities and passing legislation to require all employers to provide at least five paid personal days per year to full-time employees.
The 103rd General Assembly was inaugurated the second week of January, 2023. It is my honor to serve as your State Representative in Springfield for another term. I have made it my mission to bring the voices of our community to the General Assembly. At the bottom of this newsletter, you will find opportunities to voice your concerns on key issues in our communities.
At the start of the spring session on January 12, 2023, I filed a resolution to designate January as Cervical Health Awareness Month in Illinois to help raise awareness about the disease, how it can be prevented and to encourage women to get their annual screening. We know that many women were unable to visit their doctors for their annual screenings during the COVID 19 pandemic and cervical cancer, and when detected early, can be highly treatable.  Private insurance is required to cover annual screenings and Medicaid covers such appointments for those without access to private insurance.

I am honored to serve in several leadership roles in the Illinois House in the coming term.  During the 103rd General Assembly, I have been selected to serve as Chairwoman of the House Human Services Committee, Vice-Chairwoman of the House Human Services Appropriations Committee, Chairwoman of the House Green Caucus, which focuses on environmental policy, Co-Chairwoman of the House Progressive Caucus, as member of the bicameral / bipartisan Commission on Government Forecasting and Accountability and as a member of the Energy and Environment, Healthcare Licensing, Public Utilities and K-12 Secondary Education Committees.

If you ever have any questions, concerns or requests for assistance please do not hesitate to contact my office at staterepmoeller@gmail.com or 847-841-7130. It is an honor to represent you in Springfield and my staff and I look forward to serving you.

Warmest Regards,

Anna

Highlights from Lame Duck Session

Keeping Our Communities Safe

Weapons made for a battlefield have no place in our communities, but they are a common factor behind tragedies in every part of our state. Survivors of gun violence and their advocates have spoken loud and clear: Weapons of war are a threat to every community, so they

called on us to take action in Springfield. For these reasons, we passed and Governor Pritzker signed HB5471. Gun violence affects communities in every part of the state and by stopping the wave of guns flooding into Illinois from states that refuse to regulate weapons of war and by keeping guns out of dangerous hands, we can make our communities a safer place to live.

Protecting Healthcare Access

After the Supreme Court Dobbs Decision, I worked with colleagues, advocates and healthcare providers to craft legislation to ensure that Illinois protects the access and provision of reproductive and gender affirming healthcare. This work brought forth HB4664.

During Lame Duck Session, The Illinois General Assembly passed and Governor Pritzker signed HB4664 into law. This bill will make sure that patients can seek care and healthcare workers can provide it without fear of retribution or government obstacles preventing care.

Illinois will continue to reaffirm its commitment to protecting Illinoisans’ access to the safe, legal health care they need.

The 43rd District

Updated Boundaries

We have new boundaries for House and Senate Districts to  accommodate shifts in Illinois’ population. This redistricting process changed the boundaries of the 43rd District. The district shifted a little to the east to include portions of Hoffman Estates and Streamwood. I look forward to serving you!

You can click here to see an interactive map of the district. If you want to check whether or not your district has changed, you can click here to find out.
