Fall 2023 Newsletter:

Happy Hispanic Heritage Month! I hope your autumn is off to a great start. My office has been busy out in the community this past summer, connecting with neighbors. You can read more about our event-packed summer in the newsletter below. You can also check out some of our upcoming fall events. My office will be out and about at our upcoming Shred Event, the Downtown Elgin Farmer’s Market, and my first ever Youth Fair!

This summer presented so many wonderful opportunities to connect with local leaders and advocates as well as neighbors and the future of our community. I was honored to be the guest speaker at the Multicultural Education Group Kids Summer Camp on June 18th. I also supported the Gail Borden Library’s Summer Reading challenge and had my picture taken with the Teenage
Mutant Ninja Turtles Michelangelo and Raphael. I am grateful for the opportunity to support youth empowerment, community, and education.
I also welcomed three interns into my office this past summer: Marium, Stephanie and Delfina. We were happy to welcome Marium and Delfina back to the office and introduce Stephanie to our team. The three of them spent their time working on different research projects, getting to know the community, and helping out at local events.
Additionally, my office participated in the Girls Lead Summer Program. This program by the office of Lt. Governor Juliana Stratton allows girls in Illinois to shadow legislators to experience first-hand the workings of state government and the value of public service. My office was paired with Sravya, who helped us and Friends of the Fox River with a project on watershed sustainability.
If you ever have any questions, concerns or requests for assistance please do not hesitate to contact my office at staterepmoeller@gmail.com or 847-841-7130. It is an honor to represent you in Springfield and my staff and I look forward to serving you.

Warmest Regards,

Anna

In the Community

Town Hall

On June 6th, I hosted a Town Hall in Hoffman Estates with Mayor Bill McLeod and several Village Trustees.  It was great to hear from residents and discuss local and state issues.

Coffee and Conversation

This summer, we resumed our monthly Coffee Shop Stops in the district. These Monday morning coffee meetings are open to the public and I host them as a way to connect with constituents on a regular basis. Keep an eye out for the next event. I hope to see you there!

Shred Day!

Twice a year, I partner with Senator Cristina Castro and the KCT Credit Union to host a free shred event to help our community safely and securely dispose of their sensitive documents. We had one of the largest turn-outs ever this past June. Our next shred event will be September 23rd. More information on that event is at the end of this newsletter.

Juneteenth Festival

It was great to be a part of Elgin’s Juneteenth Festival and recognize the importance of African-American history and the struggle for freedom. The holiday commemorates the end of slavery in the United States two months after the end of the Civil War and two years after Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation.

This year’s festival  included family entertainment, exhibits, and great food in Elgin’s Festival Park.

New Citizens

On June 20th, Elgin welcomed and congratulated its newest United States Citizens. I look forward to this event every year and was happy to donate two cakes for the celebration. Congratulations to all our new US Citizens. We’re happy to have you as a part of our community.

Addressing Food Insecurity

On June 26th, my office volunteered with the Northern Illinois Mobile Food Bank to help provide groceries for families in our community. There were so many great volunteers there, eager to help out. We look forward to volunteering with the Northern Illinois Food Bank again.

Talking to Neighbors at their Door

This summer, my office did a lot of neighborhood walking. We went door-to-door to let people know about our upcoming public events and to let people know that my office is a resource available to them. Our summer interns were a great help in spreading the word.

Elgin Farmer’s Market

My office has been happy to participate in this season’s Farmer’s Market in Elgin. We staffed a booth on July 28th and August 18th, and will be back out there on September 29th. Stop by and chat with us. We’ll be there from 3 pm to 7 pm.

Summer Celebration

On July 29th and July 30th, my office had a booth in the Business Expo tent at the Streamwood Summer Celebration. It was a beautiful weekend to meet with neighbors and residents of Streamwood. Thank you to everyone who came out. We look forward to seeing you again next year.

National Night Out

My office was pleased to join in the festivities for National Night Out again this year. We had a great time connecting with community members at the Northeast Neighborhood block party and Willow Lakes Estates party. A special thank you to Officer Alva and the Elgin Police Department for a successful event.

Annual Senior Fair

On August 19th, I hosted my annual Senior Fair at the Dundee Township Rakow Center. The fair included local and state organizations that provide services to our seniors. A special thanks to the Dundee Township Adult Activity Center for their continued support.

Legislator of the Year Award

On August 24th, I was honored as the Legislator of the Year, by the Illinois Association of Community Care Program Homecare Providers (IACCPHP) at their annual conference. The IACCPHP works to provide in-home assistance to

seniors across Illinois through the Community Care Program. Ensuring that seniors in our community are able to access safe and affordable in-home care is an ongoing priority for me.

Environmental Scorecard

In September, the Illinois Environmental Council once again awarded me with a 100% rating in their 2023 Environmental Scorecard. This is the eighth year I have received this designation. Preserving our natural resources, cracking down on polluters and addressing climate change are critical to our future.

Helping Raise Awareness for Alzheimer’s Disease

On September 8th, my office enjoyed a delicious pancake breakfast with the Village of Carpentersville Public Safety team and Village of Carpentersville Trustee Humberto Garcia to raise awareness for

and help combat Alzheimer’s disease. Proceeds went to the Illinois chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association.

Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month: Alebrijes

On September 12th, I attended the kick-off celebration for Alebrijes: Creatures of a Dream World at the Gail Borden Library. This new exhibit features colorful Alebrijes created by artists from Mexico throughout the library.

The exhibit ends early January, so make a plan to see these incredible works of art before it ends.
